SAE Baja DAQ and Telemetry

Dual-ESP32 data acquisition and pit telemetry system for the Wentworth SAE Baja Leopard Racing team. Ran at the Palmyra, New York endurance competition.

WHAT I BUILT
  • Lead a 4-person electrical team covering data acquisition, telemetry and power distribution.
  • Built a dual-ESP32 architecture: a logging unit and an access point unit serving a three-tab pit dashboard over WiFi.
  • Defined a checksummed UART protocol carrying speed at 10 Hz and fuel flow at 1 Hz between the two units.
  • Clamped every sensor input with Zener protection and dividers after field failures.
  • Captured a 2.97 g impact event and a 19.4 mph peak at Palmyra, where the team placed 75th of 120 plus entries.
  • Traced a Hall sensor overcounting by 3.7 times to interrupt noise and fixed it with a 2000 microsecond debounce.
