Programmable Gain Amplifier, FET Comparison

Research comparing three transistor technologies in one discrete programmable gain amplifier topology, measured on the bench rather than simulated. Hardware validated, paper in progress with Quin Cabral, advised by Professor Saurav Basnet.

WHAT I BUILT
  • Built a discrete PGA around an MCP6004 with 2N7000 level shifters driving GaN at 10 V and SiC at 18 to 20 V gate drive.
  • Ran nine-state gain measurements through an ADS1115 with sub-1 percent variance across runs.
  • Measured on-resistance of 0.080, 0.150 and 0.797 ohms for the Si, GaN and SiC devices.
  • Compared measured output against a MATLAB model of the same circuit.
  • Captured the schematic in KiCad and reconciled the bill of materials against measured component values.
